I think that it is safe to say that there is not a single CrossFit athlete who does not also know about the Paleo lifestyle. I would even go as far as to say that the Paleo diet and CrossFit go hand in hand; if you have one you have the other. Right? Unfortunately, that assumption is not correct. The sad truth is that even though every single one of us has heard of the Paleo diet and knows we should be following it, some of us choose not to. It is an unfortunate reality which of course begs the question, why not? Keep reading…!

Enjoyed the point of view! As always I find your writing entertaining.
Although I don’t know if I have ever heard you swear so I am in a quandary as to what the blue letters might be…:-)
I think I have made a few of those excuses myself but I do realize that Paleo is an integral part of getting fitter, faster, and stronger. And that IS why I CrossFit in the first place.

Caitlin is always a blast to read, and she takes ‘self-responsibility’ to a whole new level.
She got me to make eggs for breakfast today. Like, 2 whole eggs, And grilled veggies… at 7:30 in the morning! I actually cooked my lunch (chicken breast) on the Foreman grill while the eggs cooked on the stove… I think I can maybe pull this off…
Thanks Caitlin! This is what I need to read today. I have been guilty this summer indulging yummy ice cream that always makes me feel terrible afterwards! Back to cooking paleo friendly meals on Sunday for the week.
You guys are awesome O:)
PS Great work LP! You’re making your fellow Jerks & Snatches proud ;P
Point right on! As someone who is over the age of 40 it has taken me a long time to realize the importance of nutrition. In March 2011 total cholesterol teetering around 200+ and more importantly my total chol./to HDL (good) ratio was over 5.5 (optimal being under 4), I was on high blood pressure meds since 25 years old and at 255 lbs. I was like everyone else blaming it on genetics, don’t have time to care, Doc give me drugs/meds to control my blood pressure and cholesterol I am too busy and have too hectic lifestyle to try, ie. TOO LAZY! Reality check, I decided after joining Crossfit Carmel and debating with Lin and Brenda on how I could not give up milk and cheese, decided to go all in with Paleo and entered the Paleo challenge at the gym and have not looked back.. I am not saying I do not cheat or never have a beer, cookie, pie, cake etc…. but I am pretty strict and I feel the best I have ever felt physically and mentallyi n my life!! I might be stretching the mental part, all joking aside I feel great!!! Now the real facts on what Crossfit and Paleo (Nutrition) has done for me, just numbers, (blood work numbers) FACTS: 157 total cholesterol (-59 points), total chol./HDL ratio – 2.85 again optimal below 4. My weight 220 lbs. down 35! And the best result in my book, no more blood pressure meds, $35 saved and invested in a positive way to my health! These are my facts and they are real numbers, not made up for everyone to ooohhhh & aaahhhh to impress. Everyone can benefit so why not try Paleo and test yourself and see how your reults soar and your body will thank you!! Buck up or Shut up, give it a whirl! Great article Caitlin, Point right on!!!
Excellent Bryan! Gotta love it when you get healthy AND faster!
Love it, Caitlin!
I made a frittata last night to have for breakfast over the next few days.
Michelle and I have been Paleo for 50+ days now and have never looked back. Never would have done without the help of our friends at CFC… however I will say this, had I NOT been doing Paleo and had read this… I would have been in the car in seconds flat getting new groceries because Coach Caitlin is quite effective (READ: scares the poo out of me
In all seriousness, we couldn’t be more appreciative of the changes CFC and the extended family have brought to us and when we combined this with the WODs, our results in all facets multiplied by 10x (just like Jonathan, Caitlin, and Craig said they would).
I can’t wait to get my bloodwork done again!
Great message Caitlin!

Excellent article, Caitlin. I wish I had known these things yeeeaars ago.
And it is hard at times. Especially when friends want pizza/ birthday cake/ keg races. The best part? Hanging out with crossfitters makes it easy. From what I see, everyone is addressing their diet. Seeing this has helped me a ton. Awesome community we have here.
My mom tried to give me cancer. :’(
She’ll hear about this at Thanksgiving!
Ok Jim. Funniest comment yet!
Nicely Put! Paleo & Crossfit has changed my life! Those of you who new me a year ago can attest. IF you really stick to it, it will make a difference. And if you don’t, you will die. Sooner than later! LOL My mom was killing me daily, stupid sandwiches and I refuse to do that to my little ones.
Christina, I recently met someone who knows you and she saw my CrossFit shirt. She said you look so awesome that she wants to give CrossFit a try!
Paleo potluck anyone?
To be concise, Paleo/Crossfit has changed my life PERIOD. Caitlin, you are spot on and could not more right about the excuses and answers. Ipods, computers, social networking, cell phones, blah, blah, blah and people want it all now. Unfortunately, out health does not work that way and you summed it up to perfection…..with attitude! Your title and chutzpa remind me of one of the biggest meltdowns in sports history. Enjoy….

Very nice! I will admit that I fall into most of these traps. I just know I have to do better and it is not always easy. I used to think that 6 days a week was good enough. It is time to get serious and stay that way. Thanks for reminder.

Just saw your comment Brenda! That is awesome!! I love being walking advertisement!
And I am down for a potluck! I’ll host it!
