As with most athletes you will find that they favor a certain brand of clothing and it can be related to how much is costs, how it feels, is it wicking, or just based upon the logo.
In recent years “wicking” type clothing is being produced by just about every clothing line in business. Even Walmart and Tartget are getting into the game with 9.00 shirts and shorts. So if there are 9.00 alternatives to 50.00 wicking shirts then why are we still purchasing more expensive clothing?
Yes fit counts and quality of the material is important and can drive the price up some but is there really that much difference between the pieces of clothing? Apparently the answer is yes…
Have you ever sat down next to someone after a hard CrossFit wod and had them say, “damn dude you stink!” Maybe for the girls there is just a silent moment and then they leave but for guys we just lay it out there.
So now we come to a possible reason why certain clothing, beyond the fit and quality of materials, can cost more. It contains silver in the thread and can actually kill certain odor producing microbes. Sounds odd but if you were to take a look around at the more expensive sports clothing lines you will see they all pretty much have silver in the threads to help you not stink and avoid your friend embarrassing you about how you smell.
Here is some information about silver in your clothing and why it works.

Where do you get this clothing from? One of our partners has a great line of clothing and CrossFitters everywhere seem to agree…Lululemon!

I’ve learned some things from this article:
1. People ARE talking about me after a WOD.
2. I should approach my wife about buying an $80 tshirt so people will stop talking about me.
Hah! Now everyone knows that is what I say to you!!!
Craig,
The people who come to do work aren’t worried about what you’ve got on. Or what they’ve got on, I would guess.
It depends on how far the slit goes up the side of the shorts…
Instead of spending $80 on shorts or a shirt, I would recommend you spend $80-$120 on weightlifting shoes. Something that would actually improve your performance. http://www.dynamic-eleiko.com/products/shoesFR.html
With regards to clothes… as long as you show up ready to work hard I don’t care if you wear cotton, silver, gold, nylon, wool, metal armor, mesh, cardboard, or wood. Just show up and throw down, regardless of material or scent.

Caitlin,
Point well taken. And to be honest, my stench is in direct proportion with my work output!
